The Melbourne Shuffle (also known as RockingThe Shuffle) is a rave and club dance that originated in the late 1980s in the underground rave music scene in Melbourne, Australia. The basic movements in the dance are a fast heel-and-toe action with a style suitable for various types of electronic music. Some variants incorporate arm movements.^[1] or simply People who dance the shuffle are often referred to as rockers, due in part to the popularity of shuffling to rock music in the early 1990s.

Pre-shuffling dances

Shuffling originated from 'Stomping', which in turn originated from previous historical celtic dances. Stomping originally incorporated tap and traditional ballet -style foot shuffling. The clog and sword dance can easily be matched to some earlier experimental rave and club dance moves that evolved into Stomping.

Late 1980s–early 1990s

In the late '80s, the Melbourne Shuffle began to emerge as a distinct dance, incorporating more hand movement than its predecessor, Stomping. Breakbeat and techno music was gradually replaced with the more hardcore forms of rave music, such as hard trance. When b-boys started attending Shuffling dance events, they brought in their own set of hip hop dance moves, for example, the running man and gliding. Ever since these hip hop influences became predominant, the Melbourne Shuffle has also been practiced outside of raves (a characteristic of hip hop dance culture).
Where the Melbourne Shuffle was originally danced, the places were not considered to be named 'raves', but rather 'dance parties'.

Mid–late 1990s

A number of videos documenting the style during this era exist as the style increased in popularity. There are many variations of this dance but the main heel-to-toe movement remained the key motion, giving it the name "the Melbourne Shuffle". Notably arm-movements are much more prevalent than in later renditions of the dance.

2000–2008

In 2004 a documentary entitled Melbourne Shuffler began filming in Melbourne clubs, raves, festivals and outdoor events, before being released on DVD in 2005. By 2005, the Melbourne Shuffle had helped to change the sound of hardstyle and hard trance music, with DJs and producers aiming at a constant 140-160bpm speed. By 2006, early hardstyle was largely replaced by nustyle and epic trance -influenced hard trance music at popular shuffling clubs and raves. Nustyle and the newer form of hard trance focused on swung euphoric orchestral-like trance melodies that would suddenly drop (such as by a house exciter) into a constant kick drum that was of preferable speed for shuffling to by the rockers. In 2006 with the rising popularity of YouTube, dancers internationally now contribute to the Shuffle online, posting their own variations and learning from others.The German band Scooter featured the shuffle performed by veterans Missaghi "Pae" Peyman & Sarah Miatt in the video for the single J'adore Hardcore. As more people have practiced the dance, the dance itself has changed from the majority of hand movements over feet movements, to present day, where it is mostly based on keeping in time with bass beats.

Mid 2009–Present

In early to mid 2009 the infectious popularity of the Melbourne Shuffle on YouTube began to calm, but not die, bringing on a new age of shufflers. The dance began to revert back to what some people call "Oldschool". This reversion of shuffling consisted mostly of wide variations of the "T-Step" and minimal running man, and is accented by glides and spins. Although this may be referred to as "Oldschool" this new age of style is still very different from the way rockers in the '90s danced. Many of the new wave of rockers perform in cypher. Some of the older and more experienced shufflers refer to the younger people of this new wave as teeny boppers (or 'TB(s)' for short), arguing that battling is not what shuffling is truly about. TBs are also generally described as being young people that are not old enough to attend raves, so they dance at school, in a street or in a park instead. Whereas individuals who participate in those aspects of the dance argue that enough of the current Shuffle scene is influenced by Hip Hop (such as the arguably widespread inclusion of the 'Running Man') that these activities are justified.
On June 21, 2011, the American electro-hop duo LMFAO released the album Sorry for Party Rocking. A single from that album, Party Rock Anthem (#1 on the US charts), makes multiple references to "shuffling" (The phrase, "Every day I'm shuffling" is heard two times in the song). The music video spoofs the UK movie 28 Days Later, with the dance being performed by a large group of people "infected" by the beat.

The origins of the name "Melbourne Shuffle" are unknown. The term was first brought to the public attention by Sonic Animation's Rupert Keiller during a TV interview in Sydney. The Age referred to it as looking like "a cross between the chicken dance and a foot stomping robot" to the untrained eye, but locals simply called it "stomping".
Some dancers sprinkle talcum powder or apply liquid to the floor beneath their feet to help them glide more easily, some including 360 degree spins or jumps into their moves. Others apply smooth plastic tape to the soles of their shoes.
Originally consisting of the "T-Step" combined with arm movements, during recent years the "Running Man" has also been adopted into many common styles, accentuating the new focus of keeping time with the beat. The "Running man" involves a stomp forward followed by a single or double hop backwards with the same foot, the other foot repeats the action leading to a running-on-the-spot motion. The "T-Step" is a fast sideways heel-toe motion on one foot twisting at the ankle. The dance is embellished by spins, arm pumps, slides, and kicks.
The Melbourne Shuffle has its own set of moves incorporated into the running man (along with the other actual styles of the shuffle, such as t-step, l-step and stomping). One variation of the running man attributed to the Melbourne Shuffle features the dancer performing the solo 1920s charleston dance in the form of the running man (largely made popular by Leeroy Thornhill of The Prodigy). Many people have claimed both the running man and the Melbourne Shuffle as being invented by them, however, both the dances evolved between people in rave clubs and raves, etc., in the form of a street dance (which is not uncommon amongst hip hop, rave and other related dance music cultures).
Hardstyle is performed to music that features a fast 4/4 beat (also known as a 'four-on-the-floor' beat), and is normally accompanied by a heavy, booming (or hollow) bass. For this reason, many people in the US and Europe incorrectly refer to the "shuffle" as just "hardstyle". This is despite the term "hardstyle" being an umbrella term for many different rave dances globally, as well as a genre of electronic music. Hardstyle is a rave dance, while most other styles were typically performed in clubs and dance parties.

The Melbourne Shuffle dance style has remained relatively underground since its birth in the late '80s and early '90s. The term "Melbourne Shuffle" was recorded in the media when Sonic Animation's Rupert Keiller was interviewed by rage, an all night Australian music TV show.The interviewer asked Rupert what his unique style of dance was and the reply was "the Melbourne Shuffle". In December 2002 The Age, an Australian newspaper, made mention of the term in a front page article, attempting to illustrate what the popular Melbourne Shuffle was for the first time to the mainstream public.
Malaysian students studying in Melbourne originally learned the Melbourne Shuffle at local clubs and parties. They then showed people how to do it when they returned home.
Shufflers have taken their art form and self-expressive dance style overseas and are a regular sight to be seen at rave parties in the UK, Germany, Malaysia and also Thailand, where shufflers can be seen shuffling on the beaches of Koh Phangan during the Full Moon Beach Party. The internet has also been a factor in spreading knowledge and interest in the shuffle.
A documentary on the topic entitled Melbourne Shuffler was in production during 2004–2005 and was released in late 2005 on DVD. Another huge contributor to the fame and popularity of the Melbourne Shuffle is YouTube. Every shuffler and shuffle crew found themselves able to support the Melbourne Shuffle and show off their own style and moves; these videos captured everyone's attention.
On 6 September 2008, Network 10 had started filming footage at the Hard Style Dance (HSD). Nightclub for an upcoming Documentary on the Melbourne Shuffle, although no other news has surfaced after the filming of the footage.
In November 2008, "So You Think You Can Shuffle", an Australian YouTube-based video voting competition website was launched, where Shufflers from around the country can showcase their dance skills, comment, and vote on other videos. Starting in 2009 "So You Think You Can Shuffle" also started hosting official shuffle meet-ups and competitions around Australia and Germany.
In December 2008, The Daily Mercury, a Queensland publication, reported on a story about the Melbourne Shuffle's presence in Mackay. It cited the city's high YouTube exposure when compared to other major cities in Queensland.
In 2009, MSO, a Melbourne-based company that produces robotics, rave clothing, music, and art began production on a documentary titled "GLOBAL SHUFFLE 1990:2010". Scheduled for release in 2011, the film contains rare footage from Melbourne's underground dance scene in the '90s and documents the invention and evolution of the Melbourne Shuffle. It will feature involvement from the likes of Dr3kar, Shifter Hardstyle Prodigy, Euphemism, Matthew Moyle, Television Unlimited and Global Village.
The official music video for The Black Eyed Peas single "The Time" briefly features dancers (including apl.de.ap himself) in a night club performing the Melbourne Shuffle.
The Electro Hop group LMFAO featured several electro house dancers performing the shuffle in their "Party Rock Anthem" music video. LMFAO also organized an online shuffle contest for their video, the winner appeared in their Party Rock Anthem video.

Ayah Perokok Harus Hati-hati kalau Gendong Anak

Penasehat Pengurus Besar Ikatan Dokter Indonesia (PB IDI), Hakim Sorimuda Pohan, mengingatkan para ayah perokok agar berhati-hati ketika menggendong anaknya. Apalagi, anaknya yang masih berusia balita. Secara tidak sengaja, sang ayah bisa menularkan penyakit pada anak.
Ia menyebutkan kini ada tiga jenis perokok yang ada. “First hand smoker, second hand smoker dan third hand smoker,” kata Hakim di Jakarta, Rabu (2/11).
Soal perokok aktif dan pasif, menurutnya, itu sudah ‘pustaka’ lama. First hand smoker adalah perokok pertama. Orang ini merokok sehingga memasukkan sendiri racun ke dalam tubuhnya.
Second hand smoker merupakan orang yang menghirup asap rokok. Yang mungkin jarang disadari yakni third hand smoker. Mereka ialah orang yang tidak merokok, tidak menghirup asap rokok tetapi berhubungan langsung dengan perokok. Baginya, ketiga jenis perokok ini memiliki akibat yang sama saja bahayanya.
Ia mencontohkan seorang ayah yang biasa merokok di kantor, ketika pulang langsung menggendong anaknya tanpa terlebih dahulu ganti baju atau cuci muka. Tanpa disadari, ayah tersebut telah menjadikan si anak sebagai third hand smoker.
“Ayah merokok di kantor, pulang tanpa berwudhu, cium si anak. Niatnya si mau sayang, tapi secara tidak sengaja ia malah memberikan racun pada anak,” ujar dia.
Ia menjelaskan, sisa-sisa nikotin bisa saja masih menempel di wajah atau baju ayah. Racun itu akan menguap dan terhirup melalui udara. “Ya seperti orang yang merokok kan nafasnya juga bau rokok,” katanya.
Jika kebetulan si anak mempunyai penyakit bawaan asma, dengan udara yang kotor, maka asma akan sulit disembuhkan. “Jadi kalau anak asma dan nggak sembuh-sembuh, cek saja siapa yang bawa racun ke rumah,” ujarnya sambil tersenyum.

Harumkan Nama Bangsa, Ijazah Atlet 'Disandera'

Kisah yang dialami Suswanti (19), atlit Balap Sepeda BMX yang akan menjadi duta olah raga Indonesia di ajang Sea Games 2011 mendatang, sungguh getir. Sejak lulus SMA Negeri 3 Purwokerto tahun 2010 lalu, dia tak bisa melihat ijasahnya. Hal ini karena ijazah aslinya ditahan pihak sekolah, mengingat gadis tersebut masih menunggak sejumlah biaya pendidikan.
Suwarto (41), ayah Suswati mengaku, dia memang belum membayar SPP dan sejumlah biaya pendidikan anaknya, karena memang tidak mampu. Total biaya pendidikan yang harus saya lunasi, adalah Rp 2.029.000. ''Saya tidak mampu membayar biaya sebanyak itu. Pekerjaan saya hanya tukang becak dan isteri saya kerja di warung pecel tetangga. Apalagi saya juga masih membiayai adik Siswati yang masih sekolah SMP,'' jelas warga Kelurahan Sitapen, Kecamatan Purwokerto Timur, Kamis (3/11).
Sebagai seorang ayah, Suwarto berharap, melalui prestasinya di bidang olah raga, anaknya akan bisa hidup lebih baik dibanding ayahnya yang hanya seorang tukang becak. Untuk itu, dia sebenarnya menginginkan anaknya bisa mengenyam dunia pendidikan tinggi, dengan keringanan biaya pendidikan sebagai atlit berprestasi.
''Tapi jangankan bisa kuliah, untuk sekolah SMA saja ijazahnya ternyata tetap ditahan karena saya tidak bisa membayar biaya pendidikan,'' katanya dengan mata menerawang, tak bisa mennyembunyikan kekecewaan.
Ketika menghadapi persoalan ijazah anaknya yang ditahan oleh pihak sekolah, dia sebenarnya sangat berharap KONI Kabupaten Banyumas akan menguruskan ijazah anaknya. Tapi ternyata tidak ada tanggapan.
''Terus terang saya sangat kecewa. Kata KONI, dulu biaya sekolah anak saya di SMA 3, gratis. Tapi ternyata ada biaya–biaya banyak, kita disuruh bayar sendiri,'' kata Maryati, sang ibu.
Menurutnya, sebelum sekolah di SMA Negeri 3 di kelas khusus olahraga, sebenarnya anaknya sudah sekolah di MAN Purwokerto. Namun karena disarankan untuk sekolah di SMA 3 dengan alasan di sekolah tersebut ada program khusus pembinaan olah raga, maka anaknya pindah ke sekolah tersebut.
Saat itu, karena mengundurkan diri dari MAN Purwokerto, dia diwajibkan membayar administrasi sebesar Rp 1 juta. Untuk itu, dia harus berhutang ke banyak orang, untuk membayar biaya administrasi tersebut, tanpa ada bantuan baik dari KONI maupun pemerintah daerah.

Balita ini Tinggal Dua Hari Bersama Ibunya yang Sudah Jadi Mayat

Seorang balita perempuan berusia tiga tahun tinggal selama dua hari setelah ditinggal mati mendadak oleh ibunyadi rumah mereka di Selandia Baru. Ia mencari kenyamanan dari mainan kesukaannya dan melahap keju, lasagna sisa, dan susu.
Shylah Silbery, nama balita ini, mencari sendiri makanan di dalam kulkas dengan hanya ditemani boneka beruang Teddy Bear yang dinamainya 'Possum' setelah ibunya, Lauren Silbery yang berusia 28 tahun, meninggal dunia.
Komunikasi terakhir keluarga dengan Lauren Silbary terjadi pada 19 Oktober. Dua hari kemudian, karena tiada berkabar, keluarga mencemaskan keadaan Silbery dan anaknya. Mereka pun menghubungi tetangga Lauren untuk mencari tahu. Tetangga yang memeriksa keadaan rumah, hanya bisa melihat Shylah kecil tanpa terlihat keberadaan Lauren.
Polisi yang datang belakang membujuk Shylah untuk menyeret meja kopi ke depan pintu agar dirinya bisa meraih kunci dan membuka kunci pintu. Kepada polisi, Shylah hanya berkata, "Mama tidak mau bangun."
Polisi kemudian segera membawa Shylah ke rumah sakit untuk mendapatkan perawatan selama beberapa hari. Sekalipun menderita dehidrasi dan popok bayi yang lama tidak diganti, keadaan Sylah dilaporkan tidak mengkhawatirkan.

Ketika Komodo Jadi Komedi

Pulau Komodo secara administratif termasuk wilayah Kecamatan Komodo, Kabupaten Manggarai Barat, Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur. Pulau Komodo adalah sebuah pulau yang memiliki habitat asli hewan komodo yang dikelola oleh Pemerintah Pusat karena telah ditetapkan sebagai kawasan Taman Nasional Komodo. UNESCO menetapkan Taman Nasional Komodo sebagai Situs Warisan Dunia pada 1986. Letak Pulau Komodo berada diperbatasan antara Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Timur dengan Pulau Sumbawa, Provinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat yang dipisahkan oleh Selat Sape.

Bukan cuma di Pulau Komodo binatang komodo berkembang biak dengan baik. Beberapa pulau dikenal memiliki habitat komodo seperti Pulau Rinca dan Gili Motang. Pada kedua pulau tersebut terdapat sekitar 2.500 ekor komodo hingga Agustus 2009, lebih banyak ketimbang populasi komodo di Pulau Komodo yang hanya sekitar 1.300 ekor. Di daratan Pulau Flores yang tidak termasuk wilayah Taman Nasional Komodo juga terdapat sekitar 100 ekor komodo di Cagar Alam Wae Wuul.

Perjalanan Pulau Komodo sebagai nominasi dimulai pada Desember 2007 ketika terpilih tiga destinasi wisata Indonesia: Taman Nasional Komodo, Danau Toba, dan Anak Gunung Krakatau dinominasikan bersama dengan 440 nominasi dari 220 Negara. Pemerintah Indonesia mendaftar sebagai OSC dan membayar biaya administrasi masing-masing destinasi USD 199 pada Agustus 2008. Penetapan Taman Nasional Komodo menjadi Indonesia National Nominees bersama 28 finalis lainnya pada tanggal 21 Juli 2009.

Kredibilitas Penyelenggara

Menjelang penentuan pemenang tujuh keajaiban dunia (New 7 Wonders of Nature) pada tanggal 11 November 2011 mendatang, isu Pulau Komodo sebagai salah satu finalis menjadi semakin hangat. Sepuluh hari menjelang pengumuman finalis tujuh keajaiban, Pulau Komodo dari Indonesia menempati urutan ke lima dari 28 finalis setelah Hutan Amazon di Amerika Serikat, Gunung Kilimanjaro di Tanzania, Sungai Puerto Princize di Filipina. Posisi Komodo ditempel ketat Pulau Bu Tinah dari Uni Emirat Arab di posisi keenam dan Angel Falls dari Bolivia di posisi ketujuh, hingga Selasa (1/11/2011). Ditengarai dibalik kontes yang diadakan oleh New 7 Wonders Foundation ada unsur penipuan. Selain itu, juga ada agenda bisnis terselubung yang membonceng yakni agen promosi yang membisniskan melalui SMS.

Pada kategori unsur penipuan, New 7 Wonders Foundation yang berpusat di Swiss sebagai penyelenggara kontes memintai $200 untuk pendaftaran pada ratusan negara yang ingin menjadi peserta. Awalnya ada 440 lokasi dari 220 negara, lalu disaring menjadi 77 nominasi, lalu disaring lagi menjadi 28 finalis dan selanjutnya diserahkan ke masyarakat untuk memberi dukungan menjadi Tujuh Keajaiban Dunia. Setelah nominasi tinggal 28, kembali pihak New 7 Wonders Foundation mengajukan biaya license fee sebesar 10 juta dolar AS dengan alasan untuk membiayai pesta pengumuman juara.

Penawaran kepada Indonesia untuk menjadi tuan rumah deklarasi N7W diajukan pihak New 7 Wonder Foundation pada Februari 2010. Pemerintah Indonesia menyatakan berminat menjadi tuan rumah pada 25 November 2010. Kemudian pada 6 Desember 2010, pihak N7W menyetujui Indonesia sebagai tuan rumah dengan license fee sebesar 10 juta dolar AS. Indonesia diberi batas waktu sampai 31 Januari 2011 untuk menyatakan kesediaannya menjadi tuan rumah. Apabila Indonesia tidak menyatakan bersedia, status Taman Nasional Komodo sebagai finalis N7W ditangguhkan, sebagaimana ancaman Kepala Komunikasi N7W Eamon Fitzgerald pada 29 Desember 2010.

Kemudian Kementerian Pariwisata mengutus satu delegasi beranggotakan delapan orang yang terdiri dari pejabat kementerian, seorang pengacara dari Kantor Pengacara “Lubis, Santosa & Maulana”, dan beberapa wartawan nasional untuk menyelidiki keberadaan N7W 28 April 2011. Duta Besar RI untuk Konfederasi Swiss dan Keharyapatihan Liechtenstein, membantu delegasi dari Jakarta untuk penyelidikan itu dan mengadakan kunjungan ke alamat yang tertulis sebagai kantor Yayasan N7W: Hoschgasse 8, PO Box 1212, 8034 Zurich. Ternyata alamat tersebut tidak sesuai karena seharusnya Hoschgasse 8, PO Box 1212, 8008 Zurich. Alamat tersebut adalah Museum Heidi Weber yang diarsiteki Le Corbusier dan selesai dibangun pada 1967 dan hanya terbuka pada musim panas (Juni, Juli, Agustus) dari jam 14.00-17.00.

Selain New 7 Wonders Foundation tidak memiliki lokasi fisik maupun alamat pos juga tidak memiliki afiliasi dengan UNESCO. Pada situs New7Wonders sebelumnya juga pernah mencantumkan logo UNESCO, kemudian UNESCO mengklarifikasi bahwa New7Wonders bukan menjadi bagiannya. UNESCO pun tidak mendukung acara kontes tersebut. UNESCO sampai mengeluarkan pernyataan tersendiri yang menegaskan bahwa apa yang mereka lakukan dengan penetapan Situs-Situs Warisan Dunia sangat berbeda dengan apa yang dilakukan oleh New7Wonders. Hal ini menimbulkan tanda tanya kredibilitas penyelenggara kontes sehingga beberapa negara sempat mengancam mundur, termasuk Indonesia. Sementara pemerintah Maladewa (Maldives), salah satu dari 28 finalis sudah resmi mundur.

Kesaksian Duta Besar Republik Indonesia untuk Swiss Djoko Susilo juga meragukan kredibilitas Yayasan New7Wonders sebagai penyelenggara pemilihan tujuh keajaiban dunia. KBRI Swiss yang melakukan penyelidikan menemukan bahwa alamat Yayasan New7Wonders tidak jelas, status badan hukumnya juga tidak jelas, serta di mata masyarakat Swiss tidak dikenal. Yayasan New7Wonders hanya memiliki alamat e-mail, berbadan hukum Swiss, berdiri di Panama, sedang pengacaranya berada di Inggris.

Pihak agen promosipun (Content Provider Indonesia) memanfaatkan untuk tujuan bisnis kerjasama dengan Pendukung Pemenangan Komodo. Pendukung ini kemudian menjalin kerjasama dengan empat provider telekomunikasi untuk melancarkan dukungan SMS. Awalnya biaya untuk mengirimkan pesan singkat telepon genggam (SMS) Komodo ke 9818 sebesar Rp 1.000. Ketika tarif SMS masih Rp 1.000, tidak jelas keberadaan dana itu, apakah benar disalurkan untuk P. Komodo ataupun turisme Indonesia? Setelah banyak dipertanyakan, operator dan CP menurunkan tarif menjadi Rp 1. Telkomsel secara khusus mengirim Value Added Service (VAS) SMS ke pelanggannya di Indonesia baik Kartu Halo, SimPATI, dan AS dengan pesan “Dukung Komodo Jadi Bagian 7 Keajaiban Dunia. Ketik KOMODO kirim ke 9818, tarif Rp1.

Kini ketika tarif menjadi Rp 1 dan sudah banyak dukungan dari publik figur termasuk Jusuf Kalla, termasuk Presiden SBY, masyarakat Indonesia semakin antusias mengirimkan SMS dukungan. Dukungan artis seperti Olga Lydia, Fadli Padi, grup band Slank, RAN dan lainnya turut mengatrol dukungan SMS. Tercatat ketika group band Slank mengumumkan dukungannya, jumlah SMS yang masuk 10 juta dalam sehari. Hingga H-12 hari penentuan, jumlah SMS telah menembus 100 juta lebih yang dikirim masyarakat ke nomor 9818. Penyedia layanan SMS Mobilink pun sampai menaikkan kapasitas servernya. Namun tidak jelas besarnya pembagian keuntungan antara pihak CP, operator, dan pemerintah dan pihak lainnya yang mengurusi pariwisata Pulau Komodo.

Besarnya dukungan masyarakat Indonesia di dalam maupun di luar negeri melalui televoting SMS karena akan diiming-imingi oleh Panitia Lokal Indonesia. Warga negara Indonesia diluar negeripun bisa mengirimkan SMS dukungan terhadap Komodo dengan nomor tujuan sesuai operator telekomunikasi setempat. Para TKI yang berada di Korea pun antusias berpartisipasi mendukung Komodo, sekalipun Korea juga masuk menjadi finalis mengunggulkan Pulau Jeju. Bagi yang telah mengirim 100 kali SMS akan diabadikan namanya di Monumen Komodo sebagai saksi sejarah, dalam ajang finalis tujuh keajaiban dunia pada 2011. Yayasan Pendiri 7 Keajaiban Dunia (New 7 Wonder Foundation) menargetkan bisa meraih sebanyak 1 miliar SMS. Dalam kaitan dengan pemenangan Komodo, di Indonesia dibentuk Pendukung Pemenangan Komodo (P2 Komodo) sebagai lembaga di Indonesia yang mendapat lisensi untuk mengelola dukungan terkait penjurian 7 Keajaiban Dunia.

Hiruk pikuk pemenangan Komodo sebagai tujuh keajaiban dunia, posisi pemerintah tetap pada pendirian yakni tidak ikut proses koordinasi voting untuk Pulau Komodo. Kementerian Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif memandang vote Komodo itu inisiatif dari sekelompok orang di luar pemerintah karena yayasan New 7 Wonder tidak cukup kredibel. Kemudian timbul pertanyaan, mengapa Presiden SBY ikut menyerukan televoting SMS pemenangan Pulau Komodo sementara posisi Kementerian Pariwisata telah menyatakan tidak ikut dalam koordinasi voting itu?

Kita tahu, Presiden SBY pada peresmian Bandara Internasional Lombok Kamis (20/10/2011) diatas podium mengajak masyarakat mendukung Taman Nasional Komodo sebagai salah satu dari tujuh keajaiban dunia. Sejumlah pejabat tinggi hadir dalam kesempatan itu termasuk Menteri Pariwisata dan Ekonomi Kreatif Mari Elka Pangestu. Mantan Wapres Jusuf Kalla yang menjadi Duta Komodo hadir dengan menggunakan pakaian batik.

Kini isu pemenangan Komodo sebagai tujuh keajaiban dunia berubah menjadi ibarat komedi yang lucu tapi tidak menggelikan. Akan lebih baik bila dana pemenangan Komodo digunakan untuk konservasi Komodo yang semakin langka ketimbang digunakan untuk biaya kampanye pemenangan yang tidak jelas kriteria penjuriannya dan kredibilitas lembaga penyelenggaranya pun dipertanyakan.
